Sir Captain Tom Moore being treated in hospital for Covid-19

Record breaking fundraising Sir Captain Tom Moore is being treated in hospital for Covid-19.

The war veteran was knighted last year by the Queen after raising more than £32m for NHS Charities Together to support health workers tackling the health crisis.

In a statement released at the weekend by his daughter Hannah via his Twitter account, she revealed that Captain Moore had been treated for pneumonia in recent weeks and last week tested positive for Covid-19.

He is now being treated in hospital although not on an ICU ward.

“We understand that everyone will be wishing him well. We are of course focusing on my father and will update you when we are able to,” she said.

Captain Moore originally aimed to raise £1,000 by walking arund his garden 100 times to mark his 100th birthday and raise money for pandemic relief efforts carried out by NHS Charities Together.

But after capturing the imagination of the public amid the first lockdown and receiving strong celebrity and media backing he earned himself two places in the Guinness Book of Records when he raised £32.7m.

This was for the most money raised for an individual charity walk and also for the oldest person to have a number one selling single in the UK charts, for his charity version of You’ll Never Walk Alone.

In November, ahead of England’s second lockdown he launched a new fundraising push, #WalkWithTom, urging others to stage their own sponsored event.

NHS Charities Together is among those to offer Captain Moore their best wishes.
