Regulator launches inquiry into British School operating in Egypt

The Charity Commission has launched a statutory inquiry into The British School of Alexandria.

The investigation has been opened after trustees failed to comply with an Order of the Commission issued in 2021 for accounts in 2019 and 2020.

The order was given after being subject to a class inquiry for ‘double defaulters’ - charities that have failed to meet their statutory reporting requirements for two or more years in the last five years.

The latest inquiry will attempt to find out to what extent the trustees are complying with legal duties in respect to governance, management and administration of the charity.

It will also find out as to what extent, if any, failing or weaknesses in the administration, governance and management of the charity identified during the inquiry were the result of misconduct and/or mismanagement by the trustees.
