National Trust to phase reopening of gardens and parks

National Trust is planning to phase reopening of its gardens and parklands.

The announcement comes as charity shops across the UK plan to re-open their doors to customers from 15 June, in line with government guidance.

National Trust will, like many charity shops, phase the reopening of gardens and parklands in England and Northern Ireland with advance booking needed to limit numbers and maintain public safety.

A number of gardens and parklands will begin reopening from 3 June to those who have booked tickets in advance. Only members and visitors who have booked tickets beforehand will gain entry.

All car parks and properties in Wales remain closed in line with Welsh government guidance, as well as the trust's houses, shops, holiday cottages and campsites.

The trust's director general Hilary McGrady has said welcoming visitors again will give access to 'nature, beauty and history' and has thanked staff, volunteers and members for their ongoing support.

“We want to provide safe, local, welcoming spaces for people, and wherever possible we will open our gardens and parks, and coast and countryside car parks.

“The fresh air, bird song, big skies and open spaces people have missed will be there, but things will be very different, particularly at first. We want to thank people for their patience and support while we gradually begin reopening and welcoming our visitors.”
