Scouts, Citizens Advice and Shaw Trust were among the big winners at the Charity Times Awards 2022, which was celebrated on 14 September in London.
Hundreds of people turned up at the London Mariott Hotel Grosvenor Square for a glamorous night celebrating the best of the sector and paying tribute to Her Majesty the Queen.
There were cheers across the tables as Scouts was crowned Charity of the Year (income over £10m), while IntoUniversity took home the prize for Charity of the Year (income of £1-10m) and Shared Interest Foundation topped the under £1m category.
This year, Lucy Straker was presented with the Outstanding Individual Achievement Award. Straker has spent nearly 15 years as a charity communications expert, and was nominated for her “empathetic, compassionate and professional approach”, which includes her work with the campaign Charity So Straight.
Kate Lee, CEO of Alzheimer’s Society was named Charity Leader of the Year for her work leading the culture change at the charity, while Supporting Leader of the Year went to the Brain Tumor Charity’s CEO, Clare Normand who stood out to judges “for her passion and commitment to the charity.”
Ben Lindsay took home the Rising Leader of the Year award for his work with the charity Power the Fight, which empowers communities to end youth violence. The entry ‘heavily inspired judges’, it was revealed on the night.
Now in their 23nd year, the awards attracted hundreds of high quality entries, which were then evaluated by an expert independent judging panel.
In addition to the charity of the year and individual categories, the awards as always set out to recognise a variety of fields of charity management, celebrating the best standards of leadership and professionalism.
