Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games organisers have announced that Comic Relief’s Sport Relief campaign will be its official charity partner.
The link up will see the charity involved in a raft of events and activities in the lead up to the event, which takes place in the summer.
Also, through the link up it is planned for Sport Relief content to be broadcast by the BBC during the event.
“We have so many exciting things in store for all Sport Relief supporters to get involved in and enjoy,” said Comic Relief’s Samir Patel.
“2022 marks 20 fantastic years of Sport Relief and the start of our exciting journey to develop and expand this brilliant campaign which taps into the power of sport and the role it plays in our popular culture.
Other charities to benefit through partnerships with the Games, include the Birmingham Legacy Charity and the Commonwealth Sport Foundation.
Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games chair John Crabtree added: “This partnership marks an extremely exciting and significant moment in the life of the Games.
“Working with Sport Relief means that together, we can use the transformative power of sport to not only entertain, but also raise funds for important causes that will have a lasting positive impact.”
The Commonwealth Games link up coincides with Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day becoming an annual fundraising event each March, marking the first change in the charity’s campaign format since Sport Relief was launched in 2002.
