Refugee charity promotes head of operations to CEO

Lewisham Refugee and Migrant Network (LRMN) has appointed its head of operations Alan Robertson as the charity's next chief executive.

He has been covering the top post at the London charity since the departure of Rosario Giumba-Stewart, who announced in February she was to step down after 14 years in the role.

Robertson joined LRMN in 2020 and had previous spent more than four years as operations and independent sexual violence advisor manager at Survivors UK. He has also worked at the Scottish Refugee Council and is currently a trustee at Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers.

“I am honoured and excited to be the new CEO at LRMN,” said Robertson.

“It’s a wonderful charity that makes a tangible difference to the lives of so many sanctuary seekers. It is fantastic to work alongside a team that embodies the care, compassion and welcome that we want to see extended to everyone rebuilding their lives in our communities.

“Together with the Board, the staff, volunteers, all of our partners, and our community, I am committed to continue leading with integrity to build on LRMN’s already life-changing work.”

LRMN chair Claire Morris added: “The board of trustees is delighted that Alan will be the new permanent CEO at LRMN.

“Alan has the drive, vision and compassion to lead the team at LRMN and build on the excellent work already underway, including service delivery and campaigns.

“The board is committed to investing in our people and look forward to working with Alan in his first CEO role.”

Giumba-Stewart has since joined funder London Catalyst as its executive director.
