Peter Kay donates £14,000 to charity he ‘found on his phone' on the way to a show

The comedian Peter Kay is donating £14,000 to Action for Children after wanting to donate to a children’s charity and reportedly finding the organisation on his phone on his way to one of his shows at the London 02 arena.

The donation is the equivalent of £1 for every audience member at the show and will be given to the charity’s Secret Santa fundraiser, which hands Christmas presents to disadvantaged children.

Kay told those at the show about the move while wearing a Santa costume.

"I’m going to put it in a children's charity and I was looking at my phone on the way down and I found one called Action for Children,” he told the audience, according to a Daily Mirror report of his charitable gesture.

"They do a Secret Santa and it seems really lovely. There’s 14,000 people here, so if I take a pound that’s £14,000 for children on your behalf. So thanks!”

The charity has thanked the comedian “for choosing us for this very generous donation”.

“Many children will wake up on Christmas to no toys, food or warmth,” said the charity.

“We need Secret Santas like you to help put the magic back into Christmas,” they said of Kay.
