Mind is among charities to receive funding from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s charity the Archewell Foundation.
The mental health charity has received the backing following Harry and Meghan’s TV interview with Ophrah Winfrey last week, which highlighted issues such as mental health, racism and press intrusion.
Mind had been among mental health organisations to back the Duchess of Sussex for speaking out about her emotional wellbeing during the interview and helping “to break down the stigma” around mental health.
We applaud Meghan Markle for speaking out about her experiences of suicidal thoughts. We know that opening up in this way can be really difficult, but when high profile people talk about these experiences, it helps to break down the stigma around mental health issues. 1/3 pic.twitter.com/XeBLXitIMn

“We’re grateful to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Archewell Foundation for this support, which will help us continue to make sure everyone with a mental health problem gets both support and respect,” said Mind director of fundraising Kathleen Miles.
She added: “We know that the pandemic has taken its toll on our mental health, with more people than ever coming to Mind for support – whether that’s through our website, Infoline, or the services run by our network of local Minds across England and Wales.
“At the same time, this past year has been difficult financially for the whole charity sector – including Mind – as many fundraising events were cancelled or postponed and charity shops were regularly closed to comply with lockdowns and restrictions.”
Other charities to receive backing from the Sussex’s in the UK and US after their interview include those working to promote racial diversity across society, including the media.
This has included a donation to the Press Pad Charitable Foundation, which looks to tackle the financial barriers facing young people wanting to become journalists through grants, bursaries and training. The Sussex’s donation is one of the first the charity has received since registering.
We are delighted to announce that we have just registered a sister charity, The PressPad Charitable Foundation, and are thrilled that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their Archewell Foundation will be among our first donors.
