Match funding platform Big Give’s Green Match Fund campaign has raised £6.3m for environmental charities.
The total is a 46% increase on last year’s campaign and “demonstrates the unwavering commitment” of donors to support environmental good causes “amidst the ongoing climate crisis”, said Big Give.
The campaign ran for seven days this month, raising funds for 247 charities, including Rewilding Britain, Friends of the Earth, The Wildlife Trusts and Surfers Against Sewage.
This was raised through public donations and a £3.3m donation from the Big Give’s funders, including People’s Postcode Lottery, The Garfield Weston Foundation and The Reed Foundation.
Among the biggest beneficiaries was The Wildlife Trust’s Lost Rainforests of the British Isles campaign, which earned £249,702 in total.
Another was the Friends of the Earth Charitable Trust. A total of £241,294 was raised for its Justice for you and for nature campaign.
Meanwhile, £205,350 was raised for Whitley Fund for Nature’s supporting conservation leaders campaign.

“The Green Match Fund shows what can be achieved when members of the public and our champion donors come together and double their impact,” said Big Give chair James Reed.
“We are delighted with the record total raised. At a time when increasing the philanthropic capital flows to environmental organisations has never been more critical, our Green Match Fund empowers the charities addressing environmental challenges which impact us all.”
