Grant giver hands 19 charities £2.5m

The Julia and Hans Rausing Trust has donated £2.5m to 19 charities in Cheshire.

The money is being handed to good causes supporting young people, education, disability, welfare and restoration causes and has been made to reflect Julia Rausing’s family affiliation with the region.

The largest donation, of £1.2m, has been made to Crewe Youth Zone which is building a youth centre in the town, that aims to create 70 jobs and 100 volunteering opportunities. The grant giver’s donation will help cover running costs for its first three years of operation.

“This generous donation will initiate a Founder Patron campaign designed to achieve long-term sustainability, ensuring Crewe Youth Zone will be an asset to the community and transforming young people’s lives for generations to come,” said Crewe Youth Zone trustee Joëlle Warren

“We warmly welcome them as our first Cornerstone Patron and greatly look forward to them being a partner in our journey.”

Central Cheshire Buddy Scheme, Cheshire Young Carers, East Cheshire Hospice and The Wingate Special Children’s Trust are among other good causes to the £2.5m in donations to the region.

“Cheshire bears great significance to our family, which is why we have chosen to partner with these 19 charities in the region, all rooted in their local communities,” said Julia and Hans Rausing.

“These grants cover a broad range of charities to help those most in need across Cheshire. Supporting the new Youth Zone in Crewe will provide young people with a new state-of-the-art facility and will help develop vital skills for life.”
