The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have named four charities to benefit following the birth of their daughter Lilibet.
Harry and Meghan have asked those inquiring about sending gifts to mark their daughter’s birth to instead support charities working for women and girls.
The four charities to benefit include India based Myna Mahlia Foundation, which provides health services to women and children living in disadvantage in cities. It aims to provide health support to two million women.
Also to benefit is Camfed, a pan African organisation supporting girls’ education.
Meanwhile, two American based charities are to also benefit. These are Harvest
Home, which supports homeless pregnant women and their children, and Girls Inc, which supports girls’ development.
“For those inquiring on sending gifts, we would ask that you support or learn more about these organizations working for women and girls,” said a statement via the couple’s charity Archewell.
Harry and Meghan added: “On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.
Lilibet is the nickname of The Queen and her middle name is Diana, after Harry’s late mother.
Last month a Foundation set up by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex was cleared of wrongdoing by the Charity Commission. However, the regulator found that “decisions on spending were not adequately documented”.
Trustees of the MWX Foundation decided to wind up the charity in July 2020, a year after it was launched. Almost half of its funds have been spent on legal and administrative costs, the Charity Commission found.
