Former submarine officer and barrister takes top role at navy charity

Andrew Jameson, who served in submarines during his naval career and qualified as a barrister, has been appointed chief executive of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).

He was a founding trustee of the charity and was still a serving trustee but has retired his position on the board to take up the CEO post this month, replacing Andrew Bell.

Jameson retired from the Royal Navy in 2017 and has since worked at law firms in the City of London and Clerk to the Governors at Wellington College.

While in the Royal Navy he served on submarines and ships as a logistics officer and onshore posts including head of naval legal services and commander of the maritime reserves.

“I have been part of the RNRMC from its earliest days and I am honoured and privileged to have been chosen as the chief executive,” said Jameson.

“I am very pleased to be leading the Charity forward into the next stage of its evolution, supporting sailors and marines, wherever they may be and at whatever stage of life they find themselves.  I really look forward to working with all the team at the Charity and with its colleagues in the military charity community.”

RNRMC chair Brian Gilvary added: “Andrew brings a deep understanding of our beneficiaries, great understanding of our charity and the challenges it faces, and the enthusiasm and leadership to ensure continued success, working closely with all of our partner charities.  The board are really excited about continuing their work with Andrew in the years ahead albeit as CEO and not as a trustee.”
