WaterAid has bolstered its board with the appointment of five trustees with top level experience across finance, communications and environmental sectors.
Among those joining the board is Sanjay Nair, global head of business and transformation costs at HSBC Global Commercial Banking.
He has three decades of experience in the commercial sector, including at General Electric and has “witnessed water security first-hand in India”, said WaterAid.
Another new recruit is Nina Jasinski, who has 40 years’ experience in senior roles in advertising, marketing and communications and is a consultant who is “passionate about all things on the diversity agenda”, said the charity.
Three environmental experts have also been drafted in, including Ashvin Dayal, who leads the Rockefeller Foundation’s Power and Climate program.
Also joining is women’s rights campaigner, water expert and climate change expert Simi Kamal, who is vice chair of the International Water Management Institute, board director of Khushhali Microfinance Bank Limited and convener of the Think Tank on the Rational Use of Water.
Completing the new recruits is agricultural economist and development expert Mamadou Biteye, who is executive secretary of the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) and worked at Oxfam as its regional director for West Africa.
“We’re thrilled to welcome five new members to WaterAid’s Board of Trustees. Together they bring a spectrum of hugely valuable expertise, insight and knowledge, along with a wealth of experience across different sectors ranging from energy and climate, to business communications, development and inclusion,” said WaterAid chief executive Tim Wainwright.
“They will join us in delivering our new global strategy and our commitment to create monumental shift in ambition and approach.”
The new recruits will help oversee WaterAid’s operations across 27 countries to provide clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene to communities.
“I’m delighted to confirm the appointment of our five new trustees whose talents, experience, knowledge and passion will help us continue the transformative work of WaterAid. The fundamental cornerstones for life - access to clean water, decent sanitation, and good hygiene – are more vital now than ever before, enabling people to reach their full potential and fight poverty,” added WaterAid chair Andy Green.
