A national charity has been set up to support the learning needs of young people with Down’s syndrome.
Learn and Thrive has been entered onto the charity register and aims to offer a library of free educational tools to the Down’s syndrome community.
The experience of young people with Down’s syndrome during lockdown, including having to cope with remote working, has driven the setting up of the charity.
It has been funded through a National Lottery Community Fund grant as well as corporate backing from care firm Quality Compliance Systems (QCS).
We strive to give people with Down’s syndrome the tools to thrive. We all have the right to a fulfilling life within our community. Therefore, a diagnosis of Down’s syndrome mustn't be a barrier.

“We are so excited that we can now offer these bespoke free resources to all young people in the UK,” said the charity’s chief executive Jo Aiyathurai.
“Our vision is that every child and young person, regardless of background, income, or family situation deserves access to education materials that meet their needs. For too long access has mainly been available to those that can pay for it.”
Learn and Thrive chair Nikki Walker, who is CEO of QCS, added: “When I first met with Jo and her team, what really shone through was a passion and determination to make this game-changing learning resource universally available to every young person with Down’s syndrome.
“I’m extremely proud to chair a dedicated team of trustees who all want to help empower the Down’s syndrome community.”
