The Disasters Emergency Committee’s fundraising appeal to support communities impacted by this month’s devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria has raised more than £100m in two weeks.
The campaign was launched 9 February and raised £32m in one day. Last week Charity Times reported that the appeal had reached £983m and this weekend the coalition of aid charities, including Christian Aid and Oxfam, revealed that it has now topped £100m.
Money raised includes match funding from the UK government and the Big Give Fundraising platform.
It also includes more than £760,000 raised by Glastonbury Festival Organisers working with Oxfam, which are staging a prize draw for tickets with “once in a lifetime experiences” at the iconic event.
In the weeks and months to come, DEC member charities will continue to deliver assistance to those affected by the earthquakes.

“The public's generous response to the DEC’s appeal for survivors of the earthquakes in Syria and Turkey has been incredibly moving to see," said actor Daniel Craig, who has been presenting the appeal’s TV advertising.
“The earthquakes lasted seconds but the aftermath will last for years. Since I filmed the broadcast appeal, the numbers of people confirmed as killed or injured have gone up by tens of thousands.
“Hospitals, schools and businesses have been reduced to rubble, and hundreds of thousands of people have been left homeless in freezing winter conditions. Please do what you can to help them by supporting the DEC appeal.”
So far 44,000 people have died during the Earthquakes and 18 million have been affected “many of them in urgent need of shelter, food and medical aid”, said the DEC.
