Charity sector pays tribute to 'much-loved' campaigner Len Goodman

Charities have been paying tribute to Len Goodman, the Strictly Come Dancing judge and sector campaigner who passed away at the weekend.

Goodman’s most high-profile work in the charity sector was as an ambassador and public face of the Remember A Charity campaign to encourage people to leave legacy gifts for charities.

"We're deeply saddened by the passing of our much-loved ambassador Len Goodman,” said the campaign.

“Len made a great difference to so many charities, openly supporting and discussing the importance of gifts in Wills for many years. A true inspiration to us all, our thoughts are with his family.”

It was announced this week that Goodman had lost his battle with bone cancer, aged 78.

He was also the vice president of the Demelza Charity, which also said it is “deeply saddened” to learn of his death. Goodman had appeared on the TV game show Tipping Point, where he raised £2,400 for the charity.

Another health charity to pay tribute to Goodman is the Ichthyosis Support Group, which was handed a National Lottery award from the former Strictly Come Dancing judge a decade ago.

Meanwhile, another good cause Goodman supported, Air Ambulance Charity Kent, Sussex and Surrey, said: "We have worked closely over the years, and we’re so grateful for the support he showed to local charities. We cannot thank him enough."

Goodman was a professional ballroom dancer and coach before becoming a judge on Strictly Come Dancing from 2004 to 2016. He also appeared as a judge on the US show Dancing with the Stars from 2005 to 2022.
