Charity’s assets frozen amid ‘serious concerns’

The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) has frozen the assets of a charity it is investigating amid “serious concerns” around its management.

While its investigation into Pollokshields Development Agency is ongoing the regulator said it needs to “ensure the charity’s assets are protected and that the charity trustees are acting in line with their legal duties”.

“As a result of inquiries to date OSCR’s concern is that the charity’s assets are at risk,” it said.

“Given the seriousness of the situation, and the risk of harm to the charity, OSCR consider it appropriate to direct the charity not to undertake the charity’s activities whilst our inquiries are ongoing.

“OSCR also consider it appropriate to direct the charity’s bank not to part with property it is holding on behalf of Pollokshields Development Agency without OSCR’s consent.”

The action will be in place for the next six months and end on 1 December this year.

The inquiry into the charity was opened in May after the regulator was alerted to allegations that the trustees had been removed and new board members appointed “not in accordance with the terms of the constitution”.

It is also alleged that the current trustees have continued to carry on charity activities without having access to the charity’s funds
