Charity Governance Awards to recognise trustees' response to Covid-19 crisis

The best responses by trustee boards to Covid-19 are to be recognised at next year’s Charity Governance Awards.

The award scheme is in its sixth year with the new Covid-19 category added to take into account boards’ response to the health crisis.

The new category is called ‘Covid-19: Embracing Opportunity and Harnessing Risk' and recognises how the pandemic has impacted on of every area of charities’ organisation, from service delivery and finance to marketing and communications.

Home working and pivoting fundraising online are among particular challenges charities are facing.

The free to enter award scheme, which is sponsored by The Clothworkers Company, opens on 2 November to coincide with the start of Trustees Week.

The deadline for entries is 25 January 2021 and shortlisted entries will be announced in April with the winners revealed a month later.

Winners in 2020 included Sport 4 Life UK, the Smallwood Trust and the Muslim Women’s Network UK.

“Now, more than ever, boards across the country are being challenged to lead their charities effectively through crisis and change,” said Michael Jarvis, who chairs the awards for The Clothworkers’ Company.

“Good governance will be the key to sustainability across the third sector. We know that the spirit of learning and collaboration thrives here, which makes sharing brilliant achievements even more important.

“Such resources can help our colleagues across the charity community as we navigate our way through this pandemic and its aftermath, which will have an impact on society for years to come.”

Other categories cover diversity, digital transformation and impact.
