Charities urged to take part in Trustees Week activities next month

Charities are being urged to take part in a week of campaigning next month to encourage people to become trustees.

Trustees Week takes place from 2- 6 November and highlights the work of charity trustees and support boards and urge new people to consider giving up their time to help the voluntary sector.

The week will also highlight issues to improve charity governance, says organising partner NCVO.

During the week the NCVO will be running a number of online activities as well as offer open access to its governance tools and resources.

Activity by the charity sector body includes an online training session on carrying out a board effectiveness review.

A webinar on issues around the newly updated Charity Governance Code will also take place. In addition there will be an online panel discussing “organisational resilience for trustees”.

Other webinars include ‘building good trustee relationships and what to do when things go wrong’.

Trustee body Getting on Board is organising a ‘festival of trusteeship’ during the week to “learn, inspire and connect with a community of trustees, charity leaders, diversity and inclusion thinkers, aspiring trustees, governance experts and more”, it said.

Getting on Board activities include a number of webinars, covering issues such as ‘racism in the board room’ and ‘working out who you need on your board.

In addition, a Trustees Week website has been set up by the organising partners offering training and resources for trustees and further details of online activity during the week.
