Carers Scotland appoints former Marie Curie policy head as director

The former head of policy and public affairs in Scotland at Marie Curie has been appointed director of Carers Scotland, which is part of Carers UK.

Richard Meade is leading Carers Scotland’s work in Scotland and Northern Ireland and replaces Simon Hodgson, who has retired.

He was head of policy and public affairs, Scotland, at Marie Curie for eight years.

“We are really pleased to welcome Richard to the charity,” said Carers UK chief executive Helen Walker.

“He has led award winning campaigns and has a proven track record of working with governments and partners to deliver change. He has also worked with carers and understands the issues and challenges that need to be addressed.”

Meade added: “Scotland has seen unprecedented demands on unpaid carers over the last two years, struggling with their own health, financially and, crucially, accessing services they need.

“These next few years we need to see action from governments and communities to provide the support that carers need as we emerge from the COVID pandemic. I look forward to working with the charity and with partners to make life better for carers in Scotland.”
