He leads strategic development and programme delivery operations.

Elsewhere, Gita Patel joins as director of global resources, with responsibility for finance, HR, IT as well as legal and governance issues.

She has previously held senior roles at international development charity Practical Action, International Commission on Missing Persons and HelpAge International.

Meanwhile, Linda Evans takes up the new role of director of global animal welfare. Qualified vet Evans joins from The Donkey Sanctuary, where she set up its veterinary policy advisory services team.

They report to SPANA chief executive Linda Edwards, who said: “We are thrilled that Linda, Kit and Gita are joining SPANA.

“They bring with them a wealth of expertise in their respective fields, and I look forward to working closely with them as we move forward on our ambitious plans to develop and maximise the impact of our work and make a lasting, transformative difference to the lives of working animals across the world.”
