Salvation Army introduces QR donation option

The Salvation Army is introducing QR codes to its iconic red kettle collection tins to enable donors to donate using their mobile phones.

All of the charity's 25,000 kettle tins will be fitted with NFC chips and QR codes to allow donors to tap or scan their phones to make a donation using Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Passersby who choose to donate will be able to scan their mobile phones and will be directed to a payment page that accepts Apple or Google payments.

Funds will be distributed to the charity and e-mail receipts will be sent to donors.
