Sudbury charity announces closure citing "increased financial challenges"

Local Sudbury charity, the Bridge Project, has announced its closure citing financial difficulties.

In a statement on its website, it said: "like many charities across the UK, we have faced increasing financial challenges in recent years. Rising costs—including higher wages, National Insurance contributions, and the overall impact of inflation—have made it impossible to continue operating. Despite exploring every possible option, we have reached a point where we can no longer sustain our services."

The charity has been operating for nearly 30 years as a training centre for people with learning difficulties and other vulnerable groups.

The charity will cease to operate after 29 March 2025.

The trustees added: “As volunteer trustees, this has been an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking decision. There were so many outside factors beyond our control which, sadly, ultimately meant the charity became financially unviable. Our priority now is to work with partners to ensure that staff and service users are supported through this transition, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has been part of The Bridge’s journey.”

In its statement, the organisation said that it is working with other charities, service providers and funders to pass the services onto partners and updates will be provided as soon as possible.
