Three directors to leave Marie Curie

Marie Curie has announced that three senior executives will be leaving next month as part of an overhaul of corporate services.

Director of finance Andrew Whitehead and chief information officer Charlie Hooper will leave on April 21, while director of people, planning and performance Belinda Brown is to depart on April 6.

Their exit from the charity, which supports those with a terminal illness, is part of a review of corporate services that will see the creation of two new roles.

Penny Laurance-Parr, Marie Curie’s current general counsel and company secretary is to take on the newly created post of director of strategy and performance from April 1, which will see her also lead on governance issues.

The other newly created role, of director of corporate services, has been created to lead finance, IT, human resources and volunteering functions.

Jackie Freeman will take up this post on May 2, joining from restaurant chain Strada, where she has been chief financial officer.

She was previously finance director and company secretary at Pizza Express.

Marie Curie chief executive Jane Collins said: “The environment in which Marie Curie operates is changing. There is a growing need for the care we provide through our nursing and hospice services and we are facing an increasingly challenging economic environment. Marie Curie must continue to evolve and adapt to meet these challenges.

“The work we are doing to improve our efficiency and effectiveness is an important step in ensuring we remain a sustainable provider of high quality care and support for people living with a terminal illness and their families.”

She added that all three outgoing directors were involved in and supported the review.
