Shaw Trust creates 600 charity jobs to meet growing demand

Employability charity the Shaw Trust is looking to expand its staff by 25%, creating 600 new jobs over the next year.

The move comes as the charity looks to meet growing demand for its services amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

During the outbreak the UK has seen more than 185,000 redundancies announced, with retail, hospitality, travel and leisure among the hardest hit.

“At Shaw Trust we are a values-led organisation, we put those we support at the heart of everything we do,” said Shaw Trust chief people officer Mark Earl.

“So for us, when we are recruiting the most important attribute we look for in a candidate is their commitment to our purpose.

“We have great training and development in-house available, so can help candidates master the skills needed, but we can’t make someone want to work with people, or teach someone to be customer focused. Therefore we are calling out to anyone who has worked in hospitality, retail or similar sectors with the public to take a look at what we can offer.”

The charity offers a range of national and local government funded programmes which are being expanded to meet demand.

Most of the new roles will be working directly with people on their employability.

This will initially use virtual technology and involve working from home. The majority of the new roles will be in London, the Midlands, the home counties and central and east of England.
