Regulator launches probe into Liverpool community charity

The Charity Commission has launched a statutory investigation into the running of Liverpool community support charity Eldonian community Trust Limited.

A regulatory compliance case into the charity’s governance was launched two years ago but this has been escalated to a statutory inquiry.

The Commission will look at whether trustees are complying with their legal duties in their running of the charity and submitting financial information.

Whether it has enough trustees will also be looked at.

The charity is part of a wider network of organisations linked to the Eldonian Community village in Liverpool but is the only one to fall within the remit of the Charity Commission.

It was set up in 1987 to advance education and set up and secure a community centre in the area.

The Eldonian community village in the Vauxhall area of the city was founded in 1978 as an inner-city redevelopment.
