Plymouth has emerged as the most generous area in the country, according to research revealed by a food aid charity.
More than one in five people in the Devon city give to good causes each year.
Other generous locations include Glasgow and Kingston-upon-Hull where just one in five people donate to charity.
Meanwhile one in six people in Coventry donate, while around one in seven people in Cardiff, Sheffield and Islington in London make charitable donations.
The highest average donation per person is in Stoke on Trent. The one in ten of its population that give donate £234 on average.
One in 10 in Croydon are the second most generous in terms of average donation. A typical gift here is worth £161.
The research has been carried out by Charity Right and is based on the proportion of people making donations, average amount given and general interest in giving, and on number of Google searches per 100,000 people.
