JustGiving has revealed that this year's London Marathon participants have raised £37.1m for good causes, up 43% on last year’s post event tally of £25.9m.
The figure has been calculated the day after Sunday’s event and is set to rise further in the coming weeks as runners collect more donations.
On the day of the race £2m was raised via the online fundraising platform’s fundraising pages. This is double last year’s on the day tally of £1.1m.
More than 1,700 charities are benefitting from the event via JustGiving this year with more than 21,000 pages have been created. Each has so far raised £1,600 on average.

“We’re incredibly proud of all the fundraisers who took part in the London Marathon this weekend and the rise in donations is just another reminder of people’s generosity even in such tough circumstances,” said JustGiving general manager and president Pascale Harvie.
“It never fails to inspire us to see the efforts people will go to in support of causes close to their hearts and the huge adversity humans can find the strength to overcome.
“Huge congratulations to all of those involved from the team at JustGiving, and thank you, on behalf of the 1,700 charities that will benefit as a result of your hard work and dedication.”
This year’s top fundraisers via JustGiving are couple Hassan and Yoyo who raised £116,431 for Hope for HH UK, which raises funds for research into hypothalamic hamartoma, a type of brain tumour their daughter Lucy was born with.
This year’s mass participation and virtual fundraising event’s charity of the year was British Heart Foundation.
The previous year’s event marked the London Marathon’s return to the capital as a mass participation fundraiser following Covid lock down postponements.
