Girlguiding names most senior volunteer

Girlguiding has appointed Tracy Foster as its most senior volunteer decades after she was first involved with the charity as a Brownie.

Foster has been named chief guide at the charity with responsibility for supporting its 70,000 network of volunteers.

She first joined the charity at the age of seven and later went on to lead groups, as a trainer and holding commissioner roles. She is also currently the charity’s chief commissioner for Anglia.

Her term lasts five years and she takes over from Amanda Medler, who has an MBE for services to girls and young women.

“I am very proud and honoured to have been appointed as Chief Guide and look forward to the next five years as we continue to empower our adult volunteers and engage with our young members, ensuring their voice is at the heart of all we do,” said Foster.

“I am constantly inspired by both our amazing volunteers, who give their time and care to providing a welcoming space for girls to experience the fun and adventure Guiding offers, and our young members that I see each week laughing with friends, stepping out of their comfort zones to try new things and their confidence growing.

"I want all girls to have access to what we offer, and I’m excited to work with the wider team to help make this ambition a reality.”

Girlguiding’s chief executive Angela Salt added that Foster had a “wealth of experience along with her passion and commitment will see her succeed in helping to ensure Girlguiding continues to offer more opportunities to more girls long into the future”.
