Funder offers £500,000 worth of grants

Benefact Group is inviting applications in July for the latest stage in its Movement for Good award scheme that is offering charities £1m worth of grants over the year.

The latest tranche of funding from the insurer sees £500,000 available. Applications for grants of £10,000 or more launched this week and close on Friday 28 July.

Charities supporting education, skills, rural or community development, heritage, arts or culture and tackling climate change are invited to apply.

The funding is for three years and can cover project and core funding costs.

Benefact Group chief executive Mark Hews said: “We understand the importance of longer-term funding for charities, especially when trying to bring ambitious new ideas to life and get larger transformative projects off the ground.

“Through our large grants, we are actively championing innovation, giving charities the backing they need to propel their plans forward and turn creative ideas into practical solutions that benefit society.”

Already Benefact Group has handed out 150 grants of £1,000, with further funding award stages to take place throughout the year.

Research released this week found that only 4.7% of grants offered by funders are for three years or more, amid concerns in the sector that short termism in funding is impacting charities’ ability to plan.
