Energy Saving Trust funding deadline looms

The deadline is looming for charities to apply for £7m in funding to support vulnerable people.

The Energy Saving Trust is offering £7m in the eighth round of the Energy Redress Scheme. The deadline for applications is 5pm on Thursday 30 July.

The scheme redistributes voluntary payments from energy companies, which may have breached regulations, to deliver energy related projects to vulnerable people.

Since it launched two years ago it has handed £15.4m to more than 100 charity run projects across England, Scotland and Wales.

The latest, seventh, round of funding saw £2.9m handed to 11 charities, including Scope, which was handed £424,158 and Macmillan, which was awarded £278,874.

Others to gain funding in the seventh funding round include Deaf Action and Care & Repair Cymru.

“We had a great range of charities apply in round seven and our Independent Grants Panel had to make some difficult decisions over which projects to fund,” said Energy Redress Scheme development officer Katie Reville.

“Most of the round seven projects will be ready to support vulnerable households over the coming heating season, which is important as demand for energy advice is expected to increase this winter due to the financial impacts of Covid-19.”

Only Charities that are registered with the Energy Redress Scheme can apply to the open funding rounds.
