Conflict of interest concerns spark probe into linked charities

Two Jewish charities are to be investigated by the Charity Commission amid concerns over conflicts of interest.

Statutory inquiries are to be launched at Solev Co Limited and Hatzlocho Limited.

The investigation into Solev will look at “related-party transactions” and the management of conflicts of interest.

The regulator explains that until recently all trustees at Solev Co Limited were part of the same family.

“Trustees are expected to act in the best interests of the charity and properly manage any conflicts of interest,” warns the regulator.

Also being looked at within the management of Solev is why it has not submitted its annual returns in time for the past five years. It also still needs to submit its accounts for 2023 and last year.

Similar concerns are also being investigated at Hatzlocho.

Among trustees of Solev and Hatzlocho is Romie Tager, who is related to the chair of Hatzlocho, Ester Marianne Tager.
