Charity to close after 40 years due to ‘harsh realities of funding challenges’

A family support charity that has been operating for more than 40 years is to close due to funding pressures.

The decision to close by Home-Start Dundee follows “extensive efforts to secure sustainable financial support and attract new volunteers”, according to the Shona Campbell of Henderson Loggie, who has been appointed as liquidator.

Five jobs will be lost due to the closure, while another member of staff has been re-employed in a similar role with Home-Start Perth & Kinross.

“Home-Start Dundee has been a lifeline for many families in the Dundee area, and this decision reflects the harsh realities of funding challenges faced by many charities today,” said Campbell.

“We are committed to managing this process with compassion and integrity starting with a thorough assessment of the charity’s assets and liabilities, communicating with creditors, and ensuring that all legal obligations are met throughout the liquidation process.”

Families supported by the charity have been told to seek “the resources they need elsewhere”.

A spokesperson for Home-Start Dundee’s board added: “Home-Start Dundee would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to all staff, volunteers, and supporters who have contributed to the charity’s mission over the years.

“The charity’s commitment to improving the lives of families has made a lasting impact in the community, and regretfully the resources required to continue could not be secured.”

Home-Start Dundee’s closure is the latest to impact charities in recent months.

In March, West Norfolk Carers announced its closure due to funding challenges. .

Meanwhile, in January global aid charity Feed the Minds and Chester Sexual Abuse Support Service announced their closures due to financial problems.
