Three charities tackling homelessness are sharing just under £30,000 being donated by the Cambridge Building Society.
The money is from the building society's dormant assets and is being handed out through its community fund, as part of a commitment to supporting people with housing issues.
Charities benefiting will receive around £10,000 each.
Allia Ltd, the parent charity of Allia Impact and Allia Future Homes, will spend its donation of funding a team for a year to support the development of innovative housing for local people.
"We are committed to making the most of the opportunities this funding unlocks, said Lewis Herbert a manager at Allia Impact.
“In Cambridgeshire, we have identified local partners and potential sites for new ‘supported modular communities’ in the three areas with the highest numbers of single homeless people: Cambridge, Peterborough, and Wisbech.”
Citizens Advice West Suffolk’s grant is being spent on hiring a dedicated housing case worker for six months to support 35 people in the Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds area.
“Receiving this much needed funding from The Cambridge is a huge deal for us because it means we can speed up the rate in which we help those in need of vital support,” said the charity’s chief executive Carol Eagles.
Meanwhile, Cambridge based It Takes a City’s funding will support its street storage scheme, which provides rough sleepers with a safe place to store their belongings.
"This funding from The Cambridge Building Society is a lifeline for those we support,” said It Takes a City project lead Matt Nelson.
“The Street Storage scheme gives people the security of knowing their personal belongings are safe, which in turn helps them focus on accessing the help they need to rebuild their lives."
The building society’s IT manager Dan Haynes said: “Each of these incredible charities plays a crucial role in addressing the challenges of housing and homelessness, a cause that resonates deeply with us.
“We are proud to be part of their journey as they work tirelessly to uplift vulnerable individuals and families in our region. Together, we can help create positive change and build stronger communities.”
Charities can apply to Cambridge Building Society’s community fund twice a year, with the next round of applications opening in February 2025.
