Transport charity CEO to retire

Campaign for Better Transport chief executive Paul Tuohy is to retire next year, after four years leading the charity.

A search for his replacement will begin in the next few weeks and Tuohy will continue in the role until his successor has been appointed.

“It has been a privilege to head up Campaign for Better Transport over the past four years,” said Tuohy.

“I came into post during the pandemic and at a very difficult time for both the passenger transport network and charities in general.

“After four years I am pleased to say that both have recovered and, thanks to our hard work, transport is a priority for the new government with its commitment to deliver ‘the biggest overhaul to transport in a generation’.

“As the national transport charity, this makes Campaign for Better Transport’s work more important than ever.”

The charity’s chair Shamit Gaiger added: “We are extremely grateful to Paul for all his hard work and dedication over the past four years. This is a time of significant hope for the future of sustainable transport.

“With five decades of experience leading the sustainable transport debate, Campaign for Better Transport is uniquely placed with the resources, skills and expertise to help the government, local leaders and the transport industry deliver the sustainable transport network the country needs.”
