Public appeal launches to find ‘who is running’ under investigation charity

The Charity Commission has launched a public appeal for information about who is running a community charity it is investigating.

It says that its “initial investigations have been unable to confirm who, if anyone, is currently acting as a trustee” for the charity, Dovecot and Princess Drive Community Association, which provides support for older people and disadvantaged groups in this area of Liverpool.

“As part of the inquiry, the Commission is appealing to the local community to come forward with any information they may have about who is running the charity,” the regulator said.

The charity is under investigation amid “financial and governance concerns”.

Also, its bank accounts have been frozen as information obtained through its compliance work “suggests the charity’s property may be at risk”.

Its probe will look at the charity’s administration, governance and management, its lack of trustees and whether there has been any misconduct or mismanagement that has led to financial loss.

Conflicts of interest, whether “false and misleading information” has been submitted to the Commission and whether legal obligations have been met, will also be looked at.

The charity was registered in 1997 and according to the charities register has no listed trustees, no staff earning more than £60,000 a year, and is supported by three volunteers.

Its financial reporting for the year ending March 2025 is more than two months overdue.

For the year ending March 2024 its income was £209,500, however it spent £213,510 over this period. This was the third year in a row where its spending has outstripped its income.

Charity Times has attempted to reach the charity, but its contact number listed with the Charity Commission is no longer in service.
