A survey of more than 2,000 adults has revealed that more than half are set to donate money to charities over the next year.
Most of this group add that they are “very likely to do so”, found the survey, which was carried out by YouGov in the summer.
Meanwhile, one in four of those surveyed say they are unlikely to donate from now until August next year.
The proportion of those looking to donate over the next year is higher among women, with three in five set to donate, compared to just over half of men.
Age is also a factor, with almost two thirds of those aged over 55 saying they are likely to donate, compared to half of those under the age of 44.
Charity shop use
Yougov’s survey also asked UK adults about their use of charity shops, as donors and customers.
Just over half say they have donated goods to charities over the last year, with almost half saying they have bought something from a charity shop over this period.
Donating goods to a charity is the most popular form of charity support, followed by buying from a charity shop and then donating money.
The most likely group to donate to and shop at a charity shop are women aged over 55.
“The data highlights the different ways UK adults engage with charities,” said YouGov.
“While monetary donations remain widespread, donating goods and shopping at charity shops are also significant forms of support, and more than half of UK adults expect to donate money over the coming year.”
