Debt advice charity Money Buddies has been handed a donation of £97,500 by Money Saving expert Martin Lewis during an interview live on ITV’s Good Morning Britain this week.
Lewis was interviewing the Leeds based charity’s deputy chief executive Saleem Shafi on the show and asked him how much money Money Buddies needed to help people.
After telling Lewis that “I think £975,000 would make a big difference” to its support, Lewis pledged to give the charity 10% of that sum from his own money.
The charity has thanked the founder of the MoneySavingExpert website and said it will “make a big difference to us”.
THANK YOU @MartinSLewis on @GMB for donating to our Charity. Your donation will make a big difference to us. It will allow us to reach more people. 98% of our clients are new clients, who never sought advice before. Your donation helps keep us going...

This is the second large donation made by Lewis to the charity. In March the charity was handed £50,000 by Lewis after the charity commented on a Tweet by the consumer expert on rising energy bills saying it was “at breaking point”.
We are in the same boat Martin. We saw twice as many people than we expected to see in February, same again in March, and we have a huge waiting list of people desperate to see us who are vulnerable. We are at breaking point... the state must intervene now...
