Macmillan COO to lead substance abuse recovery charity

Drug, alcohol and mental health charity WithYou has appointed Macmillan Cancer Support’s chief operating officer Simon Phillips to be its next chief executive.

He leaves the cancer support charity after 18 years, which has included a stint as Macmillan’s executive director of strategy and performance.

Philips joins WithYou in January 2024 and replaces Belinda Phipps, who has lead the charity for the last three years.

“I’m incredibly passionate about giving people the support they need to live a happy and healthy life, no matter their background or current situation - WithYou does this without question,” said Phillips.

“I can already see the passion that comes from the staff delivering life-changing services at WithYou, alongside the breadth of specialist expertise delivered to support those most in need of support.”

WithYou chair Anne Chapman added: “Simon’s experience means he is the ideal person to lead WithYou on the next phase of our journey as a provider of expert drug, alcohol and mental health recovery services.

“He has a considerable breadth and depth of charity experience in health and social care, supporting people in what could be the most challenging chapter of their lives.

“Under Simon’s leadership I am confident that WithYou will continue to thrive and ultimately realise our vision of a future free from harm, suffering or deaths caused by poor mental health, drug and alcohol use, where anyone seeking help feels welcomed, not judged.”
