Infrastructure charity joins hospice before financial pressures put services 'at risk’

A local infrastructure charity is to become part of a hospice in its area as it looks to secure its long term future amid financial pressures.

Harrogate & District Community Action (HADCA) is now working through the legal and regulatory arrangements involved to become part of North Yorkshire Hospice Care (NYHC), which is known locally as Saint Michael’s Hospice.

“Like many smaller voluntary organisations, HADCA faces a long-term challenge around financial sustainability,” said the infrastructure charity in a statement.

“The Board believes it is important to act now, rather than wait until financial pressures begin to put services and support at risk.

“Joining North Yorkshire Hospice Care provides an opportunity to combine the strengths of two organisations with a strong commitment to our local communities.

“This is a significant step for HADCA, but one that we believe provides the strongest and most sustainable future for the work we have built together over nearly 40 years.”

Through the move all HADCA activities and assets will transfer to NYHC. Staff will be retained “ensuring continuity of support”, it said.

Also its Harrogate Community House base will continue as a hub for support.

HADCA added: “We look forward to building an even stronger future for volunteering, community action and the local voluntary sector.”
