Gift Aid backlog impacting charities’ cash flow

The Charity Tax Group (CTG) has been in talks with HMRC over reports it has received from large charities “that they are experiencing longer processing times for Gift Aid claims”.

They warn this is hampering charities’ cash flows.

HMRC has advised that “a processing issues had created a backlog of claims requiring approval”, according to CTG. It has further advised the tax group that processing times “are now returning to normal” as this backlog “is being cleared”.

“However, we are keen to understand whether delays are continuing to affect charities. If your organisation is experiencing ongoing issues with Gift Aid claim payments, please do let us know”, said CTG.

Charities impacted by delays are urged to contact the group at expert@charitytaxgroup.org.uk.

The CTG also points out that BDO has launched a free Gift Aid training tool to further support charities.

The importance of Gift Aid to the sector was among issues discussed by charity leaders with recently appointed charities minister Vicky Foxcroft last week.
