Funder launches ‘pay it forward’ initiative among charity grantees

Funder the Benefact Group has launched a “pay it forward” initiative for its latest tranche of grants, by asking recipients of funding to nominate other good causes for future funding.

The scheme is being launched by the financial services group through its Movement for Good Awards and is being piloted by five charities, who have each received £2,000.

By giving them the chance to nominate another charity to receive the next round of £2,000 grants the funder hopes to create “a chain of generosity” that will eventually involve 25 good causes.

The five charities are TinyLife in Northern Ireland which supports families of premature babies, Ireland based Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland, Wales based young cancer patients charity Giddo’s Gift and the Perranporth Surf Life Saving Club.

A total of 50,000 is being made available for the initiative with a new charity in the “chain” being announced every two weeks. Each of these will be picked by the previous grantee. All charities will be revealed by 9 June.

“Charities know their sector better than anyone,” said Benefact Group impact director Chris Pitt.

“We’re excited to see where their insight leads and how this trust-based chain of giving plays out. It’s about community, collaboration, and curiosity – what happens when we give charities the reins?”
