Disability charity chief to co-chair global women’s rights organisation

Katie Ghose, the chief executive of young disabled people’s charity Kids, has been appointed as co-chair of Womenkind Worldwide’s board.

She will lead the board at the international women’s rights charity alongside Lusungu Kalanga to support its executive to promote feminist movements and rights groups globally.

Ghose is a former chief executive of Women’s Aid Federation of England, the Electoral Reform Society and the British Institute of Human Rights.

She is also a former barrister and has led Age Concern campaign on women’s pension rights and age discrimination in the workplace.

“Womankind Worldwide is an incredible organisation where colleagues and supporters bring their energy, practicality and drive to provide women’s right organisations with flexible funding, spaces for learning and exchange, and opportunities to influence policy at every level,” said Ghose.

“I will put my heart and soul into this role, striving to share and devolve power and resources. I will listen to and learn from the amazing women at the heart of programmes supported by Womankind, to accelerate our path to a world where women, girls and people of all genders live with joy, choice and dignity.”

Womenkind Worldwide co-chief executives Disha Sughand and Diana Njuguna added: “We welcome Katie as a passionate advocate for women’s rights to be free, safe and in charge of their own lives.

“She joins us a critical time when girls’ and women’s rights are under threat from aid cuts, misogynistic attitudes and on-line harms.

“We look forward to having two bold feminist leaders who’ll be steering Womankind to greater heights in creating an equal world for women, girls and people of all genders”.
