Building Society hands housing charity £50,000 to ramp up helpline

Shelter has received a donation of £50,000 from Nottingham Building Society to bolster its Sheffield based emergency helpline and support more people facing homelessness or poor housing.

The move comes after it emerged this year that homelessness rates in the city had reached its highest ever level.

Shelter and Emmanuel House, another charity that supports people facing homelessness, are also to benefit from a savings account deal set up by the building society..

It is hoped the setting up of its Community Saver account will raise £25,000 for the charities. The account sees the Building Society pledge to donate 0.5% of deposits to charity.

“Our partnerships with Shelter and Emmanuel House reflect our long-term strategy of supporting initiatives that address homelessness and housing issues,” said Nottingham Building Society chief savings officer Brad Nicholls.

“The work they do is invaluable, and we are honoured to be able to support them in their mission.”

Shelter’s head of high value partnerships Michelle Martin added: “Our heartfelt appreciation goes to The Nottingham for their support. Their generous donations and ongoing support enable us to make a tangible impact on the lives of those facing housing challenges.”
