The Discussion: Effective strategies for the settlement of DB pension liabilities in the charity sector.

Hosted by Charity Times in association with Barnett Waddingham

Date

23 October 2024

Agenda

The funding position of Defined Benefit (DB) pension schemes in the Charity Sector has improved in recent years. The focus for these DB schemes is now moving towards securing their liabilities, typically through an insurance company buy-out, although there are alternative solutions coming to the market.

The key to successfully achieving this is to take a strategic approach, with a clear understanding of what is required to realise your objectives. There are a variety of potentially complex activities needed, so it is important to work through these carefully. The market for transactions is also busy, and providers prefer to transact with those that are well prepared.

Experts from Barnett Waddingham will explore how to develop an effective strategy for DB schemes operating in the Charity Sector. Those attending will have an opportunity to discuss the issues and gain an understanding of the key elements, including:

- What activities are required at different stages of the journey, and how these interact
- When, and how, to monitor the potential affordability of a transaction
- How to ensure that your data and documentation is in good order
- Who the providers are in the market, and how to prepare for a transaction
