Founded in 1839, Perennial, is the UK's only charity dedicated to helping everyone who works in horticulture, and their families, when times get tough, by offering free and confidential advice, support, and financial assistance to people of all ages working in, or retired from horticulture.
At 179 years old, Perennial is needed more than ever. Our help extends to landscapers, gardeners, designers, turf production and care staff, green keepers, tree surgeons, grounds staff, those involved in intensive production horticulture, parks and gardens staff and many others.
Over the last 15 years, our outgoing Director of Services has established our current charity services, devising the systems and processes and building the team. As we go forward with a refreshed strategy, this is an exciting opportunity for a new Director of Services not only to take responsibility for our high performing services team, but also to establish our important new work stream - our “prevention strategy”. This will focus on supporting horticulturists through training and equipping them to be successful both in professional and personal terms, thus reducing the need for our intervention services.
The role will require someone with the vision and the ability to establish our work in this space through strategic partnerships with key sector bodies. The successful candidate will be energised by our purpose, by our vision and by the opportunity to build something important over the next 5-10 years.
Successful candidates will have sound senior level knowledge and will possess the following attributes:
genuine personal wish to champion the needs of people from horticulture experiencing adversity;
excellent strategic capabilities including a clear understanding of relative value and impact;
directly relevant senior experience of service delivery from the charity, education and training or public sectors.
